About Pulpworks
This is a collection of work by Roy Ealden on the theme of working together to create a better environment by meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The origin for this exhibition developed in mid April 1989 when I was attempting to amuse my two children on a wet day in Nettleham Lincolnshire exploring what we could do with paper mache. Each piece takes up to three months to complete although I'm working on several at once. When I begin a work I know the idea I want to covey, the art develops over the months that I am working on the piece, I often get new ideas to put in the picture as I create the image. The work looks back to my early years through my teenage years and beyond. Over the years I have perceived a pattern so strong that it has become my way of expressing my feelings about the world's problems, my own faith and man's role in the future of our planet.
What we do
1] To encourage and increase awareness of environmentally sustainable development in our area and beyond. 2] To help create a culture of care about our environment by my art and photography and to educate and enhance the schools, companies and the community to think about their world in a new way. 3] To use the work to remind people of the simple things they can do to help the environment. Examples: Thinking how we use the car. Could we use it less by walking, cycling, public transport, car sharing - it could even help us keep fit! 4] To look at reducing, re-using and recycling, reminding people of ideas to reduce our imprint on the world. Simple things we all forget like turning your computer off at the switch when you finish, switch electrical items off at the plug when you leave them. Turn lights off when leaving a room and using energy saving light bulbs, it will save you money as well! 5] To help people think of the bigger picture by talking about fair trade and my experience as a trustee of a charity that works in Ethiopia and raise awareness of global trade issues including the use of slave labour and the impact of our eating and drinking habits. [6] To work with groups or individuals in an area to lift the spirit of people so that they begin to believe things are possible either individually or with difficulties in community life.
